Here we challenged ourselves to use the right sides of our brains to create a portrait without looking. I very much struggled with this and it frustrated me when my drawing would come out what I perceived as badly. They looked ugly to me and it took me a while to truly understand the purpose of this exercise. These two particular drawings are of my friends when we were asked to do portraits of each other. Overall I still struggle to see the point of this exercise but my frustration has waned.

In this project we were asked to draw a picture of our hand on a piece of plastic via a view finder. After drawing 4 of these we would choose one to put onto paper with shade and contour. I did slightly edit the hand I put to paper just so i could shade it properly and in the end I'm really glad I did for i think the final project came out well. It was surprisingly easy to shade especially considering that was the part I was most nervous about. Although I don't think I learned much about shading and value themselves, i did learn how to do it and be more confident with it.
We we're challenged to draw something upside without looking at the full image. I found it somewhat difficult as I like to know which way my lines go and how long they should be, but I found as we continued to draw that it became somewhat easier when I imagined what lines I already had as a drawing. Although the final product was not how I imagined, It did surprisingly make the outcome a lot better. As for the coloring I decided to go with what I originally thought the image was, some kind of Japanese genie. Initially I was just gonna go with cool colors but I found using cool colors for the background and warm colors for the center definitely made a nice contrast. I admit I do not like the dark purple I added to the genie's outfit, but I had ben a bit lost on what to color it. My friend also suggested for me to darken the colors on the face to make sure people knew it was intentional. Overall I'm not thrilled with my drawing and i liked the original lined one better, but I do believe as my first piece of art in the class it was a good lesson.
